To qualify for the Compostela certificate you had to walk the last 100 km to Santiago on foot (or 200 km by bike). The classic start points like Sarria became extremely busy because of this rule.

New Rule (2025-2026 onwards):
You no longer need to start your Camino at a traditional “last-100 km” point. Instead:

• You must walk 100 continuous kilometres on any officially recognised Camino route ending in Santiago.
• The final stage must still bring you directly into Santiago’s Cathedral.
• For cyclists the requirement remains 200 km.
• If you start outside Spain on a recognised route, you only need 70 km in Spain as part of your qualifying 100 km.
• You must collect two stamps per day on the section that counts toward the Compostela (not just during the final days like before).

This change makes the Camino certificate more flexible and helps spread pilgrims over less crowded stretches rather than funneling almost everyone through Sarria.

2. The New Stamp Rule (Two Per Day)

Under previous guidelines, pilgrims typically needed just one stamp per day along their Camino and two only during the last 100 km. That changed:

• To qualify for the Compostela, pilgrims must collect at least two stamps every day on the segment that counts toward your 100 km distance.
