Camino ENGLISH WAY

The Route from Ferrol
The Camino de Santiago (or the Way of St. James) is one of the most famous pilgrimage routes in the world. The English Way (Camino Inglés) was originally the route taken by pilgrims from England, Ireland, and other northern European countries. It typically began with a sea voyage to the Spanish ports of A Coruña and Ferrol before they continued on foot to Santiago de Compostela.

Highlights
The Camino Inglés from Ferrol consists of five to six stages, passing through beautiful green landscapes, Galician villages, and historic towns.

  • Ferrol – The starting point, a port city with a rich maritime history and impressive military architecture.
  • Pontedeume – A charming town with medieval bridges and stunning views over the Eume River.
  • Betanzos – One of the most beautiful historic towns in Galicia, known for its well-preserved old quarter and famous tortilla.
  • Hospital de Bruma – A small village named after an old pilgrim hospital.
  • Sigüeiro – The last stop before Santiago, where anticipation builds as the cathedral draws closer.
  • Santiago de Compostela – The final destination, home to the iconic cathedral where, according to tradition, the remains of the apostle Saint James rest.

Who should walk this?
This route is ideal for those seeking a shorter and less crowded pilgrimage. Still, it offers the full spiritual and cultural essence of the Camino. The route is very diverse, offering a mix of coastal views, green hills and charming historic towns. This variety makes the Camino Inglés from Ferrol a unique and scenic pilgrimage experience.
