The Legend Behind Cova da Doncela Galicia

Local lore tells of a beautiful maiden with golden hair who was enchanted and imprisoned within the cave by a Moorish king’s spell. According to the legend, she emerges only on the night of San Juan (June 23rd) to comb her hair with a golden comb by the sea . This tale adds a mystical allure to the already magical ambiance of Cova da Doncela Galicia.


How to Reach Cova da Doncela Galicia

The beautiful cave is located in the municipality of O Vicedo (province of Lugo). You need to park your car about 1 kilometer away from the cave as you cant get any closer.

Tip: If you park your car at the free parking area near the Insua viewpoint you will have a ideal walk about 900 meters before you reach the trail. Then you can continue another 600 meters along it before you reach the cave.

  • Safety Tips: While the path is suitable for most hikers, caution is advised, especially near cliff edges and if visiting with children.​
