Pontevedra is located on a long bay along the coast of Spain. The city center is characterized by buildings in Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. The city boasts several famous squares, such as Plaza de la Verdura, Plaza de la Ferreira, and Plaza de la Leña.
The Gothic style is also evident in the Pontevedra Cathedral, Santa María la Mayor, which was funded by the seafaring guilds. Another notable structure is the Church of the Pilgrim Virgin, whose chapel is shaped like a scallop shell, the quintessential symbol of pilgrims. Just outside Pontevedra, you can visit the Pazo de Oca, a former fruit orchard now transformed into an expansive garden with numerous fountains, perfect for a relaxing stroll.
